Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 delayed to Q1 2009?

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 delayed to Q1 2009?We can hardly confirm anything — Sony Ericsson is naturally quite about rumors — but Semcblog posted some very interesting information from the official Sony Ericsson website. Apparently, the Swedish-Japanese handset maker will take more time than originally envisioned to release the XPERIA X1 smartphone. According to the mentioned blog, we’ll have to wait for the first quarter of next year in order to buy the XPERIA X1. And while we’re kinda sad to learn this — even though this is everything bu the official information — I would remind you we’ve waited for quite some time to see the P990i released. I don’t mind waiting bit more as long as the final product provides me with great out-of-box experience. If you remember, initially the Sony Ericsson P990i had a number of stability issues which even made some people stop buying SE phones.

In the other news, the same source says R300 will start selling on September 29, while the R306 will be released on June 21st.

Finally a new E90 version with good built-quality?

After all the problems with the Nokia E90 it seems that Nokia solved the problems like the keypad that touches the internal screen. Till now the E90 was Nokias worst-built device ever.

I found this news over at the German Telefon-Treff forums and a user called “NokiaN95-1” brought them to us. He said he received his E90 today from T-Mobile with a “V.2″-sticker on it. Maybe this sticker means Version 2.

As you can see in the pictures now all keys of the keypad are in one level. In the old versions of the E90 the QWERTY keys were higher than the other keys. Thus they touched the screen. It seems that Nokia changed the whole keypad because this is not only a factory-difference by Nokia.

Motorola planning a 20-30 handset blitz in 2008

Motorola announces blitz of 20-30 handsets for 2008We’re glad to see Motorola starting to claw their way back to their days as a leader in the mobile industry. Moto just secured a significant portion of the top ten 3G handsets sold in the US this past Q3 2007, and they’re not going to just sit back and bask (which is the mistake they made with their initial successes in the Moto RAZR V3) in their achievements. Motorola has announced that they’ll be running a blitz on the mobile space by pushing some 20-30 handsets onto the market in 2008.

While Motorola sits pretty as the 3rd largest mobile phone manufacturer in the world, their stance in Taiwan only measures up to a ho-hum 4th place. Motorola is gunning for the top-spot in the Taiwanese market with this new handset blitz. Bill Chen, newly appointed general manager of mobile device business at Motorola Taiwan, said that “In the coming year, Motorola will also stress strengthening its relations with channel partners in Taiwan and to pursue a balance between sales volume and profitability while gearing up efforts to boost performance.”

If you’re looking forward to Motorola’s Android-based handsets, you might want to make yourself comfortable - as there’s no set timetable for the release of Moto’s new OHA-compliant handset. But, with about two handsets launching every month, Taiwan is going to get their fill of non-Android Motorola mobile phones.

Nokia patent app reveals Sidekick wannabe

We’re pretty sure this isn’t the first time someone outside of Danger conjured up images of a Sidekick wannabe, and while we’ve certainly seen a real fake version before, Nokia is apparently toying with the idea of kicking out a legitimate contender. In a recent patent application, Nokia details its vision for “compact devices with turn and slide concept,” which looks an awful lot like a Sidekick save for the twistable apparatus on the side. To move the display and reveal the QWERTY keypad, users must turn the side-mounted knob, which subsequently shifts the LCD upwards and back while giving your thumbs access to the keys beneath. We’re still on the fence with the whole winding approach, but it’s an interesting deviation to the norm, regardless.

Sneak Peek At the Nokia N82 Prototype

The N-series of smartphones from Nokia has been quite a hit for the company. My brother is a proud owner of a Nokia N73, for example, and he absolutely adores that handset. I once wanted a Nokia N80 and have begun to lust after the N81, but let’s push it one generation further. What you see here are photos of the Nokia N82, still in its prototype stage.

It’s been known for a little while now that the Nokia N82 existed and that it would sport a 5.0 megapixel camera with xenon flash and autofocus. Based on these pictures, we can confirm that the picture-taker also has Carl Zeiss optics with a Tessar 2.8/5.6 lens. Other features revealed by symbian-freak include GPS, Bluetooth, WiFi, quad-band GSM, and HSDPA. You want wireless radios? You got it.

There appears to be about 109MB of internal memory, but that’s easily expanded through the card slot. We also expect the Nokia N82 to sport automatic display rotation a la the iPhone. Stay tuned, ’cause this phone looks hot hot hot.

Samsung’s F700 to arrive on Verizon as SCH-U940?

Verizon Wireless customers, you may want to sit down for this one. Samsung’s oh-so-sexy SGH-F700, which is currently thrilling quite a few Vodafone customers, could be headed to The Network — and soon. According to Phone Arena, the Verizon variant of the F700 will be dubbed the SCH-U940, but actual details beyond that are scant. We are told that the unit will boast a 440 x 240 resolution touchscreen, QWERTY keyboard and a two-megapixel camera, but beyond that we’re left to wonder. No worries though, as the phone will reportedly be landing “in a few months,” so keep your eyes peeled, cool?

Is this the iPhone Nano?

Is this the real iPhone Nano? Robert from gadgetzone has notified us on the spy shots, which revealed a mini iPhone with merely 80mm long. The hardware design is same as the Apple iPhone, though the leaked photos could be photoshoped.

Sony Ericsson W890i prototype leaked, sold illegally and now reviewed for your pleasure

w890i.jpg

Someone in Poland got their hands on a Sony Ericsson W890i. We don’t care how they did it, who they contacted or when it happened, we’re just happy that a group of Sony Ericsson fanboys that write over at SE-Center got their hands on it. The review is in Polish so we’re at a loss of words for what these ninja spies had to say. It is obviously a prototype due to the SE 123 markings on the back, we’re going to have to wait for a retail unit before judging this unit. No 3.5 mm headphone jack = not interested, no matter how awesome TrackID is, I refuse to have a bulge (pictured above) hanging off my device.

Helio Mysto really Samsung U600?

The Helio Mysto, to be the Samsung C220, may in fact be the Ultra Edition II U600, one source claims. The Helio version makes a swtich to a CDMA receiver, and is also forced to abandon HSDPA broadband, turning instead to EVDO. The phone otherwise retains its most critical features, such as a 3.2-megapixel camera, QVGA screen, and touch-sensitive controls. It is also extremely thin, measuring no more than 0.42 inches deep. Release is said only be expected in the near future.

Rumor: Windows Mobile 6.1 Coming in February

Windows mobileThe original story’s been pulled, but pocketinfo.nl had an interesting rumor about a possible Windows Mobile 6.1 coming next February at 3GSM. The supposed new features are a “carousel” UI where you scroll left and right for features, as well as other small fixes. There shouldn’t be anything spectacular in a point release, and any mindblowing changes to Windows Mobile will be coming in Windows Mobile 7 sometime possibly late next year. In any case, file this under interesting rumor.
